The Sisters of Alpha Phi Welcome You!

The Alpha Phi Experience

Once can never know the meaning behind a smile,

Once is never quite so tired as when she runs a hundred miles,

Once can never walk in the meadow until she's crossed the fence,

Once can really never know 'til she's had the experience.

We could never really tell the meaning of Alpha Phi

To someone who's never been with us, though how truthful we may be.

How can we explain the glow in our hearts, or the thought behind a tear?

How can we make you understand what keeps each sister dear?

The thought inside an Alpha Phi heart is very seldom spoken.

It's more like a light that flickers and glows whenever the dark is broken.

A light in the distance that beckons you near, a warmth that you desire.

The flickers found in Alpha Phi hearts kindle bright and blazing flames.

So how can we tell you what it means to belong to Alpha Phi?

How can we make you understand how full your life could be?

How can you walk in the Alpha Phi meadow until you have crossed our fence?

How can we say what we want you to know until you've had the experience?

The way we feel about sisterhood is impossible to measure;

The experience of living in sisterhood is a great and boundless treasure.

It's love and laughter and life itself, its is a smile and someone who cares.

It's happiness and tenderness and the thought each sister shares.

It's learning the meaning behind the smile,

It's finding you can run another mile,

It's walking in a meadow that has no fence,

This is the Alpha Phi experience.

With it we bind ourselves to each other. This means that we do not speak unkindly of one another nor discuss chapter affairs with outsiders. The bond with Alpha phi is based on integrity. We are trusted.

Lend  ourselves to intellectual and spiritual growth. We seek to encourage attitudes of receptivity to new ideas and to expand our world. We accept constructive criticism and praise as indications of our progress, and always strive to improve.

Promote high standards of scholarship. The primary purpose of college is education. Nothing should be permitted to interfere with this purpose. Your success and progress are important to all of us.

Hold character, conduct and culture in high esteem. Character is the sum of the traits and habits, which make up a person's mental and moral being. Ideals of friendship, loyalty, unselfishness, integrity, and tolerance were the motivating forces which drew out founders together. These foundations of Alpha Phi are the standards which the fraternity expects you, as a member, to strive for. Conduct is the outward sign of our inner character and is judged by our attitude and our behavior. The proper basis of conduct lies in thoughtfulness, kindness and courtesy. culture is shown by our degree of appreciation of the worthwhile things in life. Knowledge of the heights mankind has achieved will enrich our existence.

Appreciate our heritage and traditions. We are rich in heritage and need to be aware of it to build the future. Each Alpha Phi should know the Fraternity's history so she can fully appreciate the value of her membership.

Participate as alumnae members. Alpha Phi experience does not end when you leave the college campus. In reality, membership has barely begun then, Alumnae chapters flourish all over the continent, and participation will give you a chance for continues enrichment.

Honor our badge. We wear our Alpha Phi pins with pride because they are the outward symbol of our bond.

Identify with Alpha Phi. Only through love and devotion has Alpha Phi been endured to be passed on to you. Each of us pledged our loyalty, and for the rest of our lives we will be identified with Alpha Phi.
